Tasmanian-produced salmon flesh contains ethoxyquin (EQ) found in feed pellets as a stabiliser. Originally developed by Monsanto as a pesticide, it’s banned from human consumption in Europe because it’s potentially carcinogenic and mutagenic.
EQ has been shown to cross the blood–brain barrier of animals, can accumulate in the fatty tissue of humans, lead to chromosome breakage and is detectable in human breast milk.
